Hi Everyone. My name is Pete (sometimes affectionately called Stinky Pete but I don’t smell-I promise!) and I currently live at Kitty Harbor. I am looking for my forever home and I am hoping that there is someone out there who will find it in his/her heart to make this happen for me.
I am considered one of Kitty Harbor’s harder to place cats because I am not a perfect specimen. It seems like the perfect kitties that come into Kitty Harbor have no problem in finding families who will love them forever but us cats, who have some issues, are not quite as lucky. I know that there are animal-loving people out there who are compassionate and understanding, and I am hoping to somehow find you!
I entered this world about four years ago as a “perfect cat” but that soon changed. You see, due to the hard life that I was forced to live with uncaring, mean-spirited people, I have developed some issues, which some people would call defense mechanisms. I loved my life when I trusted people and didn’t have a fear of being hurt by them but every time I let my guard down, someone would be cruel to me. Not only did people hurt me but they also didn’t care for me. There were many times when I would be half-starved and without shelter. I did what I could to survive living on my own in the streets of Groton but it was a hard, lonely life. I’m sure that people could hear me crying for help and that’s when my luck changed a bit.
Eventually, I ended up at a local dog pound and, although I now had food and shelter, I was very frightened because I knew my days were numbered and I would soon be put to sleep. Plus, the constant barking of the dogs next to me really scared me! Then, one day, something really special happened when this nice woman, Karen, rescued me just in the nick of time and brought me to the wonderful people of Kitty Harbor where I have lived for the past two years or so. I am so grateful to have this second chance at life and have made many friends at the shelter but what I really want is to have a quiet home where I can relax and learn to trust people again. Even though the people that I have encountered in my life before Kitty Harbor were not nice people, I still believe that there are plenty of kind souls out there.
I do get along with other cats – it’s people that sometime make me uneasy. For the most part, I am a happy cat who loves to be pet and shown lots of attention but, as hard as I try, I still can’t forget the days when people used to kick and hit me. The only time I have a problem is either when I feel cornered or when the volunteers at Kitty Harbor use their feet to guide me away from the door (I love to escape for wet food!). I know they mean me no harm but it scares me and all I can think about is when people used to use their feet to hurt me. I am not proud of myself but when this happens, sometimes I lash out a bit to protect myself. I’m sorry but if I didn’t do that in my past life, the mean people wouldn’t stop hurting me. Other than that, I am pretty well behaved if I do say so myself! I wish I could forget those bad feelings and with the help of some loving people in my forever home, I know that I can and will.
If you are looking for a flawless addition to your family, please come visit us at Kitty Harbor because we have many kitties for you to choose from. But, if you are one of those people out there who are willing to help a cat who needs a little help trusting people again, maybe I’m your man! I would love to live the rest of my life knowing the kindness of humans.
Thank you all for listening to my story.
